Permission Numbers
What are Permission Numbers?
Some courses have a class that you must pass before you can enroll in it. That class is called a "prerequisite" class.
Other courses require that you have a certain ability in English, Writing, Communication, Math, etc. before you can enroll. That ability is evaluated by taking a placement test or by the college looking at your trancripts from high school, other colleges, etc.
If you meet the prerequisites or placement requirements for a course, you can easily enroll in the class.
However, you may meet the requirements, but if the college doesn't have a record that you've met those requirements the registration system won't let you enroll.
If that is the case, you should work with the Placement & Testing Center to get your information updated. After that you'll be able to register. This'll also let you register for any other classes that have those same requirements.
If you don't officially meet the course prerequisites or placement requirements, but still feel you are prepared for the course, you can request a "Permission Number".
After receiving the Permission Number, you'll enter it while registering. That'll override the normal restrictions that would have prevented you from enrolling in that class, and you'll be able to register.
Permission Numbers are also used for all courses that require "instructor permission".
Permission Numbers only work to enroll in a specific section of a course, and they will not work for any of the other sections of that course.
Please see How to request? for more information.
